CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Teleporting while kissing is a bad idea. Just want to go on record with that.

I thought maybe the good feelings of the kiss would cancel out the nasty, gross disorienting feelings of the teleporting? Not so much.

Logan and I broke apart in the middle of my bedroom, coughing and rasping and feeling sick to our stomachs.

“Sorry,” I managed. “Shouldn’t have done that right then.

“Yeah,” he said in a strained voice. “Maybe not.”

It took us a while to get ourselves back together. And then a few more minutes to kill the skitters that had shown up. Then Logan started to go to the door. “I’ll come by tomorrow. We’ll talk strategy.”

“It’s late,” I said. “And you said your place was packed up. You could stay here.”

Logan eyed my bed, which was a twin. “We’re not both going to fit on that bed.”

I considered. Reid and Tatum seemed to make it work somehow, but Reid was not nearly the size of Logan. Plus he lacked wings.

Logan came for me and kissed my forehead. “I don’t need a bed. I’m turning to stone. I can stand in a corner.”

“Is that comfortable?”

“It’s all the same to me,” he said.

“You want to lie on the couch instead? I can get you blankets.”

“Sure,” he said, grinning lopsidedly. “I’ll take the couch.”

I wrapped my arms around him. “Okay.” I kissed him quickly.

“Thanks,” he said. He kissed me again.

“Uhm-hmm,” I said, still kissing him.

We kissed for a while.

Eventually, though, I did get some blankets on the couch out there for him, and I left him to sleep—er, turn to stone—on the couch. I climbed into my bed alone, my lips still tingling. I was glad he’d come back.

I fell asleep almost right away. I really was dead tired.

I awoke in the gray light of dawn to the sound of my door closing. I blinked and rolled over to see that Logan was inside my room. He was the one who’d closed the door. “You awake?” he whispered.

“No,” I said.

He chuckled. “I’m going to head home. I just wanted to say goodbye.”

I made a sound of disapproval. “Don’t go.” I pulled aside the covers of my bed and scooted over. “Lie down with me.”

“Petra, that bed is way too small.”

“Just try it,” I said, yawning.

He considered, and then he crossed the room and crawled into the bed with me.

I pulled the covers over us.

It was a tight fit. But that just meant I had to get as close to him as I possibly could. His skin was sort of lukewarm, which was strange. I guessed it took him a while to warm up after he’d been stone. Maybe he needed me to help him warm up. I was happy to oblige. I slung a leg over his hips and wriggled in until our torsos were pressed firmly against each other.

He made a noise in the back of his throat. “You’re warm.”

I sighed. I kissed him.

We lay like that for a while, pressed close, limbs entangled, lips against each other, exploring each other’s mouths with our tongues.
